Planning

  • Allow as much prior notice to the van line as possible.
  • Make your travel plans for the day after your load date.
  • Expect the van line to arrive at your home between 8 and 10 a.m. They will be there each day of service until 5 p.m.

Prior to your Move

  • Remove all money, jewelry, personal documents, valuable personal electronics and any medications prior to your pack/load. We strongly recommend you taking these items with you.
  • Be sure to separate items that will be going to storage and/or will not be shipped with the rest of your household goods.
  • Remove and dispose of all flammable, combustible, explosive and corrosive liquids.
  • Propane tanks will not be moved.

Loading Day

  • Expect crews to arrive between 8 and 10 a.m. Plan on being available for the mover all day.
  • If you cannot be at your residence, please have a representative there for you.
  • You will be asked to sign paperwork upon loading.
  • Do an inspection of all rooms including basement and garage, cupboards, closets, and attics to ensure all your belongings get on the truck.
  • Inspect the home prior to the driver leaving for any property damage so that it is noted right away.
  • Make sure the driver has your correct phone numbers and delivery address.

Delivery Day

  • Make sure you’re available to accept your delivery during your delivery spread assigned by the van line.
  • There will be a check off process requiring signatures — in larger homes, this process may require more than one adult.
  • It is critical you take the time at delivery to account for and confirm all items coming off the truck.
  • Plan on being at your residence all day for the unload (delivery process).
  • Crews will reassemble all items that were disassembled. Make sure all beds are properly set up prior to the driver leaving.
  • You must inspect your home prior to the driver leaving for any property damage.
  • A third party will arrive the day after delivery in most cases (appliances and uncrating).

After the move

  • Notify the van line of any damages. You will have nine months from your delivery date to file any claim. Do not throw away cartons or damaged items.
  • You will be responsible to dispose of all packing material and boxes.

Valuation

  • Valuation is the amount of coverage applied to your shipment. It is not insurance. Valuation will cover the household goods if they are lost or damaged in transit due to the crew’s negligence.
